1. When And Where is the Austin Hot Sauce Festival Held?

The 32nd annual Hot Sauce Festival in Austin will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m at a south Austin restaurant and bar, the Far Out Lounge. The event will be supported by the Central Texas Food Bank. Get Austin local dishes, sip on refreshing and cold beverages, and (of course!) enjoy the main highlight of the event, which is eating lots of hot sauce while listening to live music!

2. Contest And Lots Of Free Hot Sauce Samples

The Hot Sauce Festival has a fun contest component. Hot sauce brands are all competing for first place in a few different classes: commercial bottlers, restaurants, and individuals. To make the contest even more fun, the hot sauces/salsas are also categorized into 4 different groups: red, green, special variety, and pepper (the hottest category). In past events, hot sauces have included dried-pepper salsas and fruit salsas (ha! And what’s more exciting than purple sauce!)

3. Live Music At The Austin Hot Sauce Fest

Yes, there’s definitely live music at this Austin food fest!. (Let’s be honest…a festival isn’t a festival without some bands performing.) Some of the bands on the list are Luna Luna, TC Superstar, Mama Duke, and KindKeith with DJ McPullish. They’ll be performing throughout the afternoon.

4. Ticket Information

Grab your tickets early and take advantage of them while it is still on sale! Prior to the event, tickets are only $10, half of which will be donated to the Central Texas Food Bank. On the day of the event, the cost of tickets at the door goes up to $15 but kids age 6 and under are free of charge.

5. Is There Any Available Parking On-Site?

The short answer is YES! They do offer on-site parking at the Far Out Lounge which is located at 8504 S Congress Avenue. 

But…it is just limited. Your best bet is to use public transportation, carpool, rideshare, or take a bike, if that’s possible from your location in Austin. If you can’t take public transportation and you’re not early enough to get one of the close spots, just keep in mind that you might have to park a little way out from the venue. (Hint: wear comfy shoes for the walk.) Also, please be aware of the parking rules of the nearby streets and neighborhoods to avoid being towed.  

You can also take the cap Metro bus to get to the hot sauce fest. The Lamar/Congress the 10 S. Capital Metro's 1st/Red River bus, both depart every 15 minutes and drop off passengers close to the festival by foot.

Bonus tips:

Unfortunately, you cannot bring any bottled water or outside food to the event. They offer food and drinks inside. There are also self-serve water jug stations in the area, so you can def bring your own tumbler and re-fill them. 

Also, the same with dogs and pets… Sadly, pets are not allowed inside the venue. 

As for kids, yes! You can definitely bring your little ones with you. It’s a family-friendly event and kids below 6 years old are free from the admission fee!
