1. Blue Genie Art Bazaar

Everyone knows about this one, and that’s because it’s one of the longest-running Christmas shopping bazaars of the holiday season. The Blue Genie Art Bazaar runs from Thanksgiving till Christmas Eve every year. The store has over 200 local and regional artists who contribute original works to The Bazaar, and you can wander from booth to booth finding all sorts of locally-made treasures. One of the best parts? Both parking and entrance are free.

2. Armadillo Bazaar

December 17 – 23, 2022

Hours: Daily, 11 AM - 11:30 PM

Yep, two “bazaars” in a row here! The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is a fine art shopping destination held at the Palmer Events Center each year. Grab your ticket so you can find goods from nationally and locally recognized artists. This giant pop-up shop has been around for more than 45 years. 

In addition to shopping, they also offer live music and a full bar with a festive, lively atmosphere. If you love buying unique gifts while supporting local artists, the 2022 Armadillo Bazaar is a can’t-miss shopping experience.

3. The Front Market

Holiday Pop-Up Market

November 12 – December 4, 2022 (Four weekends. Free and open to the public)

Hours: Weekend, 11 AM - 4 PM

The Front Market is back! Ani’s Day and Night, an adorable all-day coffee/cocktail house, is hosting this four-weekend series staged entirely outside. It will run throughout the holiday season, where you can shop for nearly  400 merchants. One of the best parts? By shopping at The Front Market, you’ll be supporting LGBTQ+ creatives, designers, makers, and artists.

4. Junior League of Austin's A Christmas Affair

Shop small, ATX! While the big buzzy shopping malls are always fun, there’s nothing like supporting some of the smaller businesses. 

A Christmas Affair: Night of the Nutcracker is an annual 5-day shopping extravaganza and a silent auction presented by the Junior League of Austin. The event promotes more than 200 retail shops and small businesses from across Austin.

5. Domain NORTHSIDE

7. German-Texan Heritage Society Christmas Market

German-Texan Heritage Society Christmas Market is back for another year of shopping, eating, and enjoying German Christmas traditions. This darling market offers shoppers handcrafted, imported crafts, decorations, ornaments, and so much more. 

You can also enjoy a cup of Glühwein with some gingerbread cookies while listening to traditional German Christmas music while you shop. And if you’re hoping for more than just shopping, there are also some fun kid-friendly activities inside. It’s definitely a family-friendly Christmas event!

8. The Shops on South Congress

Where to do your Christmas shopping in Austin

Although local Austinites complain that it has become overly commercialized in the last decade, one of the busiest shopping spots in Austin is still South Congress (locally named “SOCO”. 

RIP Lucy In Disguise, Uncommon Objects, and Docs…but you can still find a few unique shops. However, the biggest stores on South Congress are now larger national brands (Hermés, Everlane, Madewell, Lululemon, etc) surrounded by a few little Austin-designed shops. 

Whatever you feel about this iconic street, you can definitely check off all of your holiday shopping on SOCO and then go find a bite to eat

9. BookPeople

Since 1970, BookPeople has been recognized as one of the top spots among independent bookstores in Texas. It’s the largest independent book retailer in Texas, and it’s an ideal spot for holiday shopping. 

Not only does it have books for literally every interest (check out the staff recommendations, handwritten in little cards tucked under each bookshelf!), but it also has a wide variety of goods, including locally made jewelry, cards, home decor, cute gifts for kids, and some creative stocking stuffers. It also sells local "Keep Austin Weird" and other Austin souvenirs. You could definitely shop for everyone on your gift list here.

10. The Mercantile at Mill and Grain in Buda

The Mercantile is an adorable general store in Buda (the town just south of Austin) offering a wide variety of goods and items. It’s very hard to walk into this store and not buy something. Looking for something truly unique? You have to shop at Good Company. What started as a women’s clothing store in downtown Austin has now grown to multiple locations in Austin, including one on SOCO and a Good Company Home store with one-of-a-kind, vintage items.

13. Take Heart
