1. De Nada Cantina

“Tacos y margs y menos.” This place is seriously so laid back and fun and yet SO GOOD. (Proof: the fact that there’s always a crowd here!)

De Nada Cantina has excellent hand-shaken craft cocktails, incredible tacos on homemade blue corn tortillas, and one of the best patios in Austin.

2. Kinda Tropical

It’s hard to beat Kinda Tropicals chill east Austin patio vibes, crazy good happy hour deals, and delicious eats and drinks. This little gas station-turned restaurant hangout is a great spot to gather with a group in the afternoon, soak up the sun, and enjoy a burger and a cocktail.

3. Bar Peached

Chef Eric Silverstein’s bar/restaurant concept on East 6th Street is kind of famous for its “social hour” on the patio. It’s a BIG menu of discounted bites that could easily count as dinner if you order enough.

The food here is a fusion of Asian-inspired comfort food mixed with craft cocktails and global favorites. It’s a bit hodge-podge, and everything is delicious.

4. Sour Duck Market

Sour Duck Market is another Austin classic that happens to have an amazing patio and a great happy hour. This is the sister restaurant to Odd Duck on South Lamar, and they put the same emphasis on locally sourced, farm-fresh ingredients and using the entire plant or animal for minimal waste.

Most of this restaurant is outdoors (you can order pastries to-go at the indoor bakery), so it’s an excellent place to hang out on a beautiful Austin day.

5. P6 at The Line

This is a cocktail bar at The LINE Hotel, which overlooks Lady Bird Lake. The cocktail bar was actually the 6th floor of a parking garage before it was renovated into this glamorous open lounge (hence the name), and it’s now one of the best restaurants with a view in Austin.

The food is more snacky than a full meal, which makes this a great place to go for a cocktail and snack during happy hour.

6. Clark’s Oyster Bar

One of the best happy hours in Austin! The burger and martini specials make this darling oyster bar worth visiting again and again, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that their outdoor patio is tree-shaded by a hundred-year-old live oak tree. It’s a gorgeous spot, and the food is consistently good.

7. Better Half Bar

One of the best restaurants in downtown Austin AND one of the best patio happy hours in Austin. Better Half Bar has made-from-scratch American favorites in a no-fuss atmosphere. The burger is one of my favorite burgers in Austin, and it’s on the happy hour menu!

8. Salty Sow

Salty Sow is an American gastropub in east Austin that has been one of the best happy hour spots for YEARS. Locals adore this place for their triple-fried duck fat fries, rotating house wines, welcoming atmosphere, and casual patio hangs.

Sister restaurant to award-winning Suerte, Este is a coastal Mexican restaurant in east Austin in a bright, tall-ceiling renovated building. The wooden deck on the side of the building is a gorgeous spot to get a pre-dinner drink or an early meal of happy hour specials.

It seems that coastal happy hours are a thing here in Austin, and that’s great because nothing hits at 5 pm like a platter of raw oysters and an ice-cold martini! Salt Trader is the seafood concept from Jack Allen’s, and it’s a popular spot near Zilker for a casual meal of Texas seafood on their shaded outdoor patio.

11. El Alma

El Alma is a Mexican restaurant near Barton Springs. They focus on authentic Mexican food (chile rellenos, tortas, and enchiladas) and a little bit less on the “Tex-Mex” side of things. But you can still find some killer margaritas and really good chips and guac here.

The rooftop patio at El Alma is the most popular place to dine here when the weather is nice. You can kinda/sorta see a view of downtown (it’s only a 2 story building, so it’s not the same as dining on the 8th floor of a hotel restaurant or something like that), but even without the view, the ambiance is incredible and very “Austin-y.”

13. Bulevar Mexican Kitchen

Sister restaurant to ATX Cocina, Bulevar is a north Austin modern Mexican restaurant and grill with a beautiful hill country - facing patio with sunset views. This restaurant is a bit pricey, but the happy hour deals are phenomenal and you could absolutely make a happy hour dinner out of them.

Just make sure you plan ahead because the specials are contingent upon where you sit in the restaurant.
